I recently had to convert an .ADF file(ARCGIS Coverage file) to a Civil3D Surface. What a pain! So many steps....
You have to:
Data Connect to bring in the .ADF
Create an SDF File
Import the SDF File
Export it to SHP file
Create Surface from GIS Data(import SHP)
Seems like Autodesk could shorten the process.
More to come on the step by step process.

Have you ever placed a Label style and accidently left the marker style set to a style you did not want??

So you think I will just edit the label style and set the marker to a different one...HA...nope..Not in the style of the label that you just placed. Why? Who knows!

Label Styles are great for keeping your design set clean and standardized. Make sure you sit down before the project and think of all the standard callouts you may have in the set. Don't worry, if you need one later just add it to your DWT file and import it into the sheets you need it in.
I had to create special style for the grade callout so the negative was in parentheses.(with help from RK McSwain!)

Go download that new version of Autocad WS. Lets just hope they have a plugin for Civil3D Objects soon!
It is great to upload your topo data to WS and take it to the field with you to verify survey data. Markup missed info or identify areas that need more topo.
It has some great new features listed below:
GPS Integration
Plot From Mobile(PDF and DWF)
Open DWG and DXF files

Quick tip on creating an Assembly with ditch control. (some data posted on another site... don't remember where)
Create a new Assembly
Add your lanes on the left and right sides
Add LinkOffsetAndSlope to the left lane, using any negative offset/slope as this is for layout mode only.
The end of Link will be what you will be setting the ditch alignment & profile to target and will control the actual location.
Add to the end of the LinkOffsetAndSlope the LinkSlopetoSurface or any Daylight (ROW) for the outside ditch slope.

Ever need to mask your text on your dimension Styles and can't find it?
Here it is. Under the text Tab on DimStyles change the "Fill Color" to "Background".

This error seems to be cause by corrupt styles.
Typically if the parent already existed and wasn't updated by dragging the parent from the other
drawing first you can get this problem.
So if you drag the style, be sure to overwrite the parent before you bring in the child.
Also blocks with attributes can cause this error.
Here is how you get rid of them:
(entdel(handent "487ea"))
Each instance type in the handle.

Is your cursor getting stuck when you roll over points in C3D?
Run CUI, under rollover tips, cogopoints, uncheck "STYLE"
